Stevens is 89 years old and generally one of the more liberal judges on the SCOTUS. Wouldn’t now be a good time for him to retire with a Democrat in the White House? I haven’t heard anything on whether or not he has plans to retire. Have any of you heard anything? Can you send me the links?

Yes, I’d say Steven has been an enormous disservice to this country! Justice Stevens was on the High Court for 35 years — more’s the pity, or the disgrace. Justice Stevens voted to sustain racial quotas, created “rights” out of thin air for terrorists and took away American citizens’ rights to their own homes in the infamous “Kelo” decision of 2005.
John Paul Stevens is a classic example of what has been wrong with too many Republicans’ appointments to the Supreme Court. The biggest argument in favor of nominating him was that he could be confirmed by the Senate without a fight.
Democratic presidents appoint judges who will push their political agenda from the federal bench, even if that requires stretching and twisting the Constitution to reach their goals.
Republicans too often appoint judges whose confirmation will not require a big fight with the Democrats. You can always avoid a fight by surrendering, and a whole wing of the Republican party has long ago mastered the art of preemptive surrender.
The most lasting damage to the country by the GOP has been putting people like John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court.
Ted Stevens was indicted for not reporting gifts (accepting bribes) made to him by a huge oil company in Alaska, with whom he had significant business dealings, and in his post in Congress, he was able to steer lucrative government contracts to. He “cheated” us Taxpayers.
John Edwards committed adultery on his wife who is battling cancer.
Ted Stevens is a sitting US Senator and has been for decades.
John Edwards is a private citizen who used to be a politician.
Stevens broke his oath to the uphold the law.
Edwards broke his oath to stay faithful to his wife.
Ted Stevens accepted gifts for years and hid the fact from the public, as he continued to make deals with the oil company to build/add on to his house in Alaska.
John Edwards had a hussy for the past year or so.
When news of Stevens broke, Dems and libs flamed him.
When news of Edwards broke, Repubs and cons flamed him.
I think both men deserved to be called hypocrites for what they did. I also think neither can be trusted. It’s clear one has political implications (Stevens) and they both have moral implications.
But which version of “cheating” is worse?
Which “oath” is more valuable, or more applicable, to us as citizens?
